Chatham-Kent's (CK) mayor will be one of the many Canadians eagerly waiting to see what'll be included in the next federal budget.
Minister of Finance François-Philippe Champagne will be introducing the budget on Tuesday, calling it "one (Canadians) will remember."
Darrin Canniff told CK News Today he's hoping to hear about new policies that'll help the average Canadian.
When it came to CK as a whole, he was quick to mention funding for more housing.
"We need help on the homeless situation, on affordable housing," said Canniff.
He explained that the current federal government has already provided support. This includes $3.7 million to help offset the municipality's costs of building the 50 transitional cabins in Chatham.
Canniff added that the federal government's overall support just isn't enough.
"Fifteen years ago, they gave us a gas tax of $6 million to be used for infrastructure. What do we get today? We still get the $6 million. Six million 15 years ago bought a whole lot more," said Canniff.
He also noted that any infrastructure support, not just for housing, would be greatly appreciated. This includes for water, roads, and bridges.
"We want to see money come into the municipality. We're in desperate need of it," said Canniff.
