The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) says an OPP officer acquitted of manslaughter in the shooting death of a man has been reinstated from suspension.
The OPP said its Professional Standards Unit has reviewed the court’s June 24 decision that found OPP Constable Sean O’Rourke not guilty of fatally shooting 24-year-old Nicholas Grieves on Highway 401 near Ridgetown on July 7, 2021. O'Rourke has since been cleared to return to duty. Grieves was shot dead in his car in the median following a gas theft at the OnRoute near Dutton.
In June, Justice Bruce Thomas found that O’Rourke did not commit a criminal act or did not carelessly use his firearm.
The OPP noted the investigation into the officer’s conduct, pursuant to the Police Services Act, has now been closed.
