Wallaceburg woman wins $50K in CKHA Foundation 50/50 draw

Wallaceburg resident Sandra Denomey is the lucky Grand Prize winner of the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance Foundation (CKHAF) Igniting Healthcare Summer 50/50 Lottery, taking home $50,245.

Denomey was stunned, saying she could hardly believe she was the Grand Prize winner.

“It was such a shock,” said Denomey. “I just kept thinking, ‘Is this real?’ I never imagined it would be me!”

CKHAF said Denomey is a long-standing monthly donor to the Foundation and a former board member for the Sydenham District Hospital Foundation.

“This hospital is so important to our community,” she noted. “Without it, people would have to travel long distances for services they can get right here at home. That’s why the Wallaceburg Redevelopment Campaign matters so much.”

Denomey said she and her husband plan to give back to local organizations and causes close to their hearts.

“We both feel blessed by this, and we want to share that blessing,” Denomey said. “We’ll use some for ourselves, but we plan to give much of it back to the community, because that feels right to us.”

This year’s Summer 50/50 raised vital funds for the Wallaceburg Hospital Redevelopment Campaign, a $9 million community fundraising effort to revitalize and modernize Chatham-Kent Health Alliance’s Wallaceburg site.

“We are so grateful to everyone who purchased tickets, to our incredible sponsors, and to the community for rallying together once again,” said Christine Mitchell, CKHAF President and CEO. “This was truly a team effort to raise funds for our Wallaceburg Redevelopment Campaign, and we couldn’t imagine a more deserving winner than Sandra! This is the perfect reminder that when you give, you can also receive something life-changing in return.”

CKHAF’s Igniting Healthcare 50/50 Fundraiser has handed out over $1 million in prizes since 2019, while raising critical funds to strengthen healthcare across Chatham-Kent.
