A Chatham teen will be representing Canada at the Miss Eco International Pageant in Egypt later this month.
Elise Moccia, 15, of Ursuline College in Chatham, told CK News Today that it's a dream come true to proudly represent Canada at the international pageant from October 13-20 and hopefully make it back-to-back wins for Canada.
"It is really nerve-racking, but I've done it twice before and I love it. I love the feeling of being on stage, I love the feeling of making new friends, new connections, love the feeling of getting all dolled up in my dress, and doing my hair and makeup. I just love all of it," said Moccia.
Moccia was recently crowned the winner of Miss Eco Teen Canada, and Canadian pageant officials noted that Moccia stood out for her poise, intelligence, leadership, and commitment to community service.
Moccia said that she is passionate about advocating for the environment and children with disabilities, causes she plans to spotlight throughout the international competition.
"This pageant gives me the chance to share my passion for the environment and really just help motivate others to care for it as well," she said.
Moccia said she is excited to share Canada’s diverse culture with the world, and to connect with other inspiring young women from around the globe.
The international pageant will host contestants from more than 20 countries.
Delegates will participate in cultural exchange events, public speaking, eco-friendly initiatives, and stage performances, all designed to empower the next generation of global female leaders.
