Wallaceburg screen composer nominated for four awards

A woman from Wallaceburg has the chance to win multiple Canadian Screen Music Awards (CASMA).

Steph Copeland has been nominated for four awards.

They include Best Original Score for a Dramatic Series or Special for "Murder on the Inca Trail," Best Original Score for a Short Film for "Alpine Rhapsody," and Best Original Score for a Television Movie for "Christmas In The Spotlight."

Copeland also received two nominations for Best Original Song for her work in "Trapped in the Spotlight" and "Alpine Rhapsody."

"I've never been nominated that many times before," Copeland joked when speaking with CK News Today.

She's now been nominated for 14 CASMAs in her career, averaging more than three a year since the awards were launched in 2022 by the Screen Composers Guild of Canada.

In 2022, she won Best Original Score for a Narrative Feature Film for "The Retreat" and Best Original Score for a Television Special for "Lethal Love." In 2023, she took home her second Best Original Score for a Narrative Feature Film for "Outpost." In 2024, she earned her second Best Original Score for a Television Special for "Binged to Death."

Copeland said she has no expectations this time around.

"The nominees are all incredible composers, all the categories are pretty stacked," she added.

A complete list of nominees can be found on the Screen Composers Guild of Canada's website.

The CASMAs will be handed out on September 10 in Toronto.
