CKPS officer charged with impaired driving

A Chatham-Kent police officer has been suspended with pay after a traffic stop in Leamington.

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop on Highway 3 around 9:15 p.m. on Wednesday.

27-year-old Trent Fox from Chatham was arrested and charged with operation while impaired, failure or refusal to comply with demand, dangerous operation, and resisting a peace officer.

OPP said his license has been suspended for 90 days, and his vehicle was impounded for seven days.

He's scheduled to appear in court in Windsor on July 16 to answer to the charges.

Fox has been with the Chatham-Kent Police Service (CKPS) for two years and was off-duty when the incident occurred.

CKPS said they will not provide any additional information or comments, but an internal investigation will be conducted after the case is resolved in the courts.
