Blenheim students building kinder, more compassionate world

Some local school children have turned their starter money into some very sizeable fundraisers.

Grade 8 students at St. Anne Catholic School in Blenheim turned their $25 in starter money to raise more than $18,000 through baking, sports events, bottle collection, and walking fundraisers.

The money raised was either donated to a cause of their choosing or used to do good deeds for others.

It's the third year in a row that the Grade 8 students have participated in the project that empowers youth to use their gifts to make a difference in their community.

Organizing teacher Jill Watterworth said the variety of projects, student initiative, and strong involvement from families show just how powerful small acts of kindness can be.

"The results are nothing short of inspiring. These young changemakers are proving that with a little effort, care, and community support, a small group of students can have a big impact," said Watterworth. “ I am so proud of our students -- not just for what they raised, but for how they grew."

The money was raised over Lent.
