Scam warning

Chatham-Kent police are warning the public about a recent phone scam targeting seniors.

Police said residents are getting phone calls asking for donations allegedly on behalf of local firefighters.

The male caller did not identify any specific fire department and failed to provide any verifiable information, according to police officials.

Police are urging anyone who gets such a call to not share any personal or financial details and to check with the organization directly before agreeing to anything.

Chatham-Kent Fire Service confirmed that no such fundraising initiative was underway.

Mischief Charge

A 36-year-old Chatham man has been arrested and charged with mischief and failing to comply with a court order after Chatham-Kent police alleged he violated his bail conditions.

Police said the suspect went to a home in Chatham on Friday night that he was ordered to stay away from in March.

The man was under court conditions to stay away from the address and not to communicate with a 40-year-old Wallaceburg woman he'd had a brief relationship with.

Police alleged that not only did the man attempt to communicate with the woman, but when it was unsuccessful, he threw a chair at her vehicle, causing approximately $800 in damage.

Assault Arrest

Throwing a stick at a child has led to an assault charge against a woman from Wallaceburg.

Chatham-Kent police said they received a complaint on Saturday night about a woman hitting a girl with a stick.

According to police, a 32-year-old woman picked up a stick, threw it at the child, and struck her in the side while she was walking on James Street with her parent.

Police added that the accused did not know the victim or her parent, and the attack was unprovoked.

The victim sustained minor injuries.

The accused was arrested and charged with assault with a weapon.

Impaired Charges

Impaired driving charges have been laid against a 58-year-old man from Tilbury after a vehicle ended up in a water-filled ditch.

Chatham-Kent police reported that officers found the vehicle in the ditch on Sunday evening on Baptiste Road in Tilbury and noticed the suspect was disoriented but had no visible signs that he was hurt.

According to police, two breath tests were done, which confirmed that the man was intoxicated.

He was charged with impaired driving and having a blood alcohol concentration of 80 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood.

A 46-year-old Wallaceburg woman has also been charged with operation of a vehicle while impaired by drugs after a vehicle ended up in a ditch in London.

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) said the driver was also charged with driving a vehicle with cannabis in the open.
