New measles exposure at Chatham emergency department

CK Public Health has reported a new measles exposure at the Chatham hospital emergency department.

  1. Chatham-Kent Health Alliance Emergency Department (80 Grand Ave. W., Chatham)

    Friday, March 28, 2025 from 9:40 p.m. to 11:50 p.m.

CK public health officials want you to call them at 519-352-7270 ext: 5902 if you were present during the time frame above and are not up-to date with your vaccinations.

They also want you to call first and tell them you have had an exposure and measles symptoms if you are experiencing symptoms of measles and need to visit a healthcare provider, emergency department or walk-in clinic.

Measles symptoms can include a fever, runny nose, cough, drowsiness, irritability, and red eyes. A red rash appears on the face three to seven days after the start of the above symptoms and it may start from the face and progress down the body.

The local health unit is urging all individuals to ensure they are up-to-date on their vaccinations as a precautionary measure.

"It is important to note that the majority of individuals are vaccinated against measles, providing them with protection against the disease. As such, the risk of contracting measles remains small to the broader community," said CK Public Health in a news release late Tuesday afternoon.

Last week, the acting medical officer of health in CK told CK News Today that there were more than 40 cases of the measles in the municipality.
