The Chatham Thunder Ringette Under 14 Team wrapped up its season on a high note.
The team was placed top 5 in all of Ontario going into the Lower Ontario Ringette League Championships on the weekend and managed to come away with the gold medal.
The Thunder had a strong showing in the pool games going 3-1 -- the only loss that they suffered was a 1-0 defeat against Ajax-Pickering.
In the finals, the Thunder got a chance at redemption, facing the same Ajax-Pickering team that they lost to in the pool games.
Despite being shut out the first time they faced off, this time, the girls had other plans.
Emma McLellan started the game strong for Chatham as she scored 2 goals in the first period to get the girls up 2-0. The team kept pouring it on in the second period as Emma McLellan scored another goal to get her the hat trick on the powerplay to make it 3-0 before Madison Larouche scored to make the score 4-0.
Josephine McDowell scored another one for the Thunder to make it 5-1 before Emma McLellan scored her fourth of the game near the end of the second period making the score 6-1, which was also the final score.
"The girls they were all fired up and ready to go and they kinda knew what they were getting themselves into," Thunder coach Krissy Crow told CK News Today when she was asked if the girls were prepared for the finals. "Our goalie is absolutely amazing... she stood on her head, she is one of the best goalies we've ever seen through this association."
The tournament marks the end of the 2024-2025 season for the Thunder, who will start up again in September.
