The Chatham-Kent Health Alliance (CKHA) has a couple of new faces on its physician roster.
CKHA announced on Wednesday that Dr. Ahmad Aziz joined the hospital as a pediatrician, a doctor specializing in the health care of children and young patients.
Dr. Mohamed Khattab also joined CKHA as an anesthesiologist, a doctor who specializes in pain management to keep patients from feeling pain during surgeries and other procedures.
“We are delighted to welcome Dr. Aziz and Dr. Khattab to our healthcare team at CKHA,” said CKHA Acting Chief of Staff Dr. Zeke Milkovic. “The addition of these two skilled physicians is invaluable as we work to increase access to high-quality, patient family centered care in our community. We look forward to working alongside them to deliver exceptional care to our patients.”
CKHA said Dr. Aziz earned his Bachelor’s Degree in general medicine and surgery from Al-Mustansiriyah University in Iraq and worked as a pediatrician in Jordan and Iraq for several years before moving to Canada.
Dr. Aziz completed the Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine Fellowship and the Neonatal Transport and Research Fellowship programs at the University of Calgary after working as a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) clinical assistant physician in Calgary for two years.
He also worked in Nova Scotia as a clinical associate physician and later as a pediatric neonatologist and was appointed as an assistant professor of pediatrics at Dalhousie University in New Brunswick for seven years.
“My experience has equipped me with the skills to diagnose and treat a variety of pediatric conditions while promoting preventative care and health education, which is fulfilling to make a significant difference in the lives of my patients and their parents,” said Dr. Aziz. “I look forward to contributing to the health and well-being of the children we serve and collaborating with such a dedicated group of professionals at the CKHA.”
Dr. Mohamed Khattab earned his Medical Diploma from the Faculty of Medicine at Benghazi University in Libya in 2008, according to CKHA, and became a Fellow of the College of Anaesthetists of South Africa in 2009.
Dr. Khattab also practiced as an anaesthesiologist in Libya and South Africa from 2009 to 2023 before moving to Canada. He joined Dr. G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital in Newfoundland in 2023 where he served as a clinical lecturer in the Discipline of Anaesthesia at Memorial University’s Faculty of Medicine.
“I am committed to providing safe, patient-centered anesthesia care to the community of Chatham-Kent, ensuring comfort and well-being throughout the surgical experience," Dr. Khattab said.
CKHA is also reporting the vacancy rate for registered nurses is under three per cent while the overall job vacancy rate is just over two per cent, a steady improvement from 2024.
