Bean bags will be flying next month in Chatham-Kent.
The second annual Cornhole for Hospice tournament, in support of the Chatham-Kent Hospice Foundation, will take place on Saturday, February 8.
"It's open to all abilities, you don't have to be experienced at cornhole," said Katherine Stinson, Special Events Coordinator for the Chatham-Kent Hospice Foundation. "We have a round robin to start off the day, and it gets divided into two tiers, the Best of the Best, and the Best of the Rest. There's cash prizes for both divisions."
The winning team in the Best of the Best division will take home $500, while the Best of the Rest winners will get $250.
Stinson added they're in a new location this year, the John D. Bradley Convention Centre in Chatham, so they have room for more teams, with about 10 spots still available.
"Even if you're not very competitive in cornhole, there's more opportunities to win," said Stinson. "There's door prizes, and for fundraising, we have some beautiful corn hole boards to giveaway. We have two sets of those, and those go to top fundraiser, and you also get a ballot to win for every $100 you fundraise."
The cost is $200 a team and includes lunch and at least five games from 11 a.m. until about 4 p.m. The Hospice Foundation will also be running a 50/50 draw at the event, admission is by donation.
"The jackpot will be up to $2,500, so you don't have to register and sign up to play to be there. You can just pop in, buy your 50/50 ticket, see what's happening, and make a donation," said Stinson.
