CK saw growth in new residents in 2024

Quite a few people moved to Chatham-Kent in 2024.

According to the Chatham-Kent Association of Realtors (CKAR), about a quarter of the homes sold last year were sold to buyers relocating to the municipality.

There was a total of 1,275 sales, meaning roughly 318 homes were sold to people new to CK.

“The region’s weather and affordability have made it an attractive destination for individuals and families seeking a high quality of life,” said Barbara McCaughrin, president of the CKAR. “Surrounded by picturesque lakes, Chatham-Kent offers outstanding recreational activities, including year-round water sports, fishing, and snowmobiling. Mild winter climate in particular, contributes to the area’s charm and is a significant draw for new residents.”

CKAR wasn’t the only organization impressed by the region’s growth. U-Haul released its top 25 communities for growth on Monday and listed CK in the 10th spot.

The rental company didn’t share specific statistics due to competitive and proprietary reasons, however, it claimed the most one-way trips to the area came from people living in Windsor. Rounding out the top five were London, Toronto, Kitchener, and Brampton.

Despite placing 10th in Canada, U-Haul stated CK saw the 7th best growth amongst Ontario communities. The others in the province to make the top 25, in order, include Belleville, Trenton, Pembroke, Brantford, Collingwood, Parry Sound, Innisfil, Barrie, Woodstock, Lindsay, Owen Sound-Meaford, Peterborough, Sarnia, and Orillia.
