The Chatham Goodfellows annual food hamper packing and delivery event went extremely well this year, according to organizers.
Chatham Goodfellows spokesperson Tim Haskell said just over 1,600 food hampers were dropped off to families in need on Wednesday and Thursday.
Haskell said the food packing and delivery event makes it feel like Christmas every year.
"There's always heartwarming moments. You get to see the people with the big smiles on their faces when you bring it to them. They're very happy to see that you're bringing them food and toys. It's definitely heartwarming," said Haskell.
Haskell said he is very thankful to have had at least 2,000 volunteers help the cause throughout December this year.
"It's amazing how many volunteers showed up. We had people come out to deliver, we had people out all year round. They just step up and help Chatham Goodfellows as much as they can. We live in an awesome community for that," he proudly said.
Haskell said the food hamper event at the Spirit and Life Centre in downtown Chatham was filled with Christmas music and Christmas spirit and he's grateful to all of the donors and volunteers who helped a family have a good Christmas this year.
Enbridge has also raised a record amount for the Chatham Goodfellows fundraising a total of $48,420 for the 2024 ‘No Child Without a Christmas’ campaign.
Enbridge said its employees and the Fueling Futures program supported ten volunteer projects, including events such as the Goodfellows food packing and delivery, toy packing and delivery, and Porchlight Campaign through fundraisers, including a Wine Pool, Spooktacular Halloween Party, and various other activities.
The Chatham Goodfellows is commemorating 70 years as a charitable organization dedicated to assisting those in need during the Christmas season.
