The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has recalled a bagged salad from store shelves due to possible salmonella contamination.
Taylor Farms' 340g Sweet Kale Chopped Salad kits with a best-before date of December 6 is the product affected by the recall. The salad kits were sold across Canada, including in the province of Ontario.
CFIA said that no illnesses have been reported. The recall was triggered by an inspection that showed positive test results for the bacteria.
Food contaminated with salmonella may not look or smell spoiled but can still cause sickness. Young children, pregnant women, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems are the most at risk.
Symptoms of salmonella include fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea. Long-term complications may also include severe arthritis.
CFIA has advised that anyone who may have purchased the affected salad kits should throw them away or take them back to the store they were purchased from.
