Holiday Lager brewing support for Chatham Goodfellows

A Chatham-based brewery is teaming up with the Chatham Goodfellows and a local radio station to make sure there is "No Child Without a Christmas" this year.

Sons of Kent has brewed up a special batch of Holiday Lager beer with a portion of the proceeds from the sale of the beer going to support the Chatham Goodfellows' annual fundraising campaign.

Colin Chrysler told CK Mornings with Chris, Allanah, and Matt on 94.3 CKSY the project has been "brewing" for a while already.

"Chris [from CKSY] approached me and the brewery here at Sons of Kent a few months ago about this project with the Goodfellows and we couldn't be more excited to get it off the ground and launch it," said Chrysler.

He added that one of the reasons they opened the brewery in the first place was to be a community supporter.

"Breweries in all towns have the ability to be kind of that community hub and we love giving back," said Chrysler. "I love it... it brings all of the people together."

He said they had some fun coming up with an idea for how it should taste as well.

"We thought, 'What are some flavours that you can kind of associate with the holiday are also pretty approachable?' We didn't want to do anything that would be too overwhelming or too exotic," said Chrysler. "So, we stuck with a couple of classic holiday flavours, which is orange and cranberry."

Tim Haskell with the Chatham Goodfellows said it is an exciting collaboration to be a part of.

"It's great that you're stepping up and doing this for us... as a Goodfellow, I truly appreciate it myself," said Haskell. " I'm not a big beer drinker, but I do love the idea of what you guys are doing."

The holiday-themed beer is being sold at Sons of Kent on Adelaide Street in Chatham while supplies last.

Next up for the Chatham Goodfellows is the 'Christmas Doesn't Have to Stink' Donation Drive-Thru at 94.3 CKSY at 110 Keil Drive South in Chatham from 7 a.m. until 10 a.m. on November 27. Volunteers will be collecting drop-off donations of personal hygiene products for teenagers along with other monetary donations.
