Police find man in a stolen boat in Wallaceburg

Chatham-Kent police managed to track down a stolen boat in the Wallaceburg area Tuesday night.

Officers found it floating on the Sydenham River.

Police said they found a man sitting with the boat on the water at around 11 p.m. Tuesday, adding that officers recognized the boat as having recently been reported stolen.

The 24-year-old man with the boat, who was also wanted on outstanding warrants for failing to attend court / possession of stolen property, was arrested, charged, and taken into custody pending a bail hearing.

Teen arrested for causing disturbance at the courthouse

A 17-year-old boy spent the night in Chatham-Kent police custody after allegedly causing a disturbance at the Chatham Courthouse Tuesday afternoon.

Police said that was at around 2 p.m. Tuesday, adding that since the teen was also on house arrest, he was charged with failing to comply with a release order.

He was arrested and taken into custody pending a bail hearing.

Driver who was drunk and high arrested by OPP

A 33-year-old Wallaceburg resident is accused of speeding on the Highway 401 while impaired by alcohol and drugs.

Elgin OPP with Chatham Detachment stopped the driver at around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday on the westbound Highway 401 near Duart Road and took them into custody for further testing.

The accused was later charged with driving while impaired by alcohol and drugs, driving with a blood alcohol concentration over the legal limit (80 plus), and speeding.

The driver's licence was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle will be impounded for seven days as a result of the charges.
