Numerous brands of frozen waffles sold in Canada and the U.S. are being recalled as they may be contaminated with Listeria bacteria.
TreeHouse Foods issued the voluntary recall after discovering the issue during routine testing at its manufacturing facility in Brantford.
The long list of waffles being recalled includes those under Walmart's Great Value brand, Metro’s Selection brand, Sobeys Compliments brand, and Loblaws’ No Name brand. The full list can be found on the company's website. Consumers and retailers can identify the UPC on the back of the carton, and the lot code and best-by-date for these products on the end of the waffle carton.
Anyone who has the recalled waffles in their freezer are urged not to eat them, but to dispose of them or return them to the store where they were purchased.
According to Treehouse, there have been no confirmed reports of illness linked to the recalled products to date.
Food contaminated with Listeria may not look or smell spoiled, but can still make you sick. Symptoms of Listeria infection include vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headache, and neck stiffness. Pregnant women, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems are particularly at risk.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (U.S. FDA) have been notified about the voluntary recall, Treehouse said in a statement.
