Bishop Fabbro leads opening, blessing ceremony for Chatham's newest school

It was a day the St. Clair Catholic District School Board has been dreaming about for years.

St. Teresa of Calcutta held an opening and blessing ceremony on Wednesday, though Chatham's newest school officially opened its doors in September.

"We did gather for one assembly earlier but this is the first time you'll see everybody in the gymnasium together at once," said Sara Vadovic, principal of St. Teresa of Calcutta.

The ceremony was led by Bishop Ronald Peter Fabbro, while Chatham-Kent Mayor Darrin Canniff and Chatham-Kent-Leamington MPP Trevor Jones were among those in attendance.

St. Teresa of Calcutta's gym, where the ceremony was held, was jammed packed as the school is home to nearly 600 students, most of whom are coming from Georges P. Vanier and St. Ursula Catholic schools.

"The students have made a lot of friends with each other, the staff is working incredibly well together... we've created a family in no time," added Vadovic.

The opening and blessing ceremony comes one day before the 45th anniversary of Mother Teresa being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.
