The Chatham-Kent Health Alliance is welcoming two new doctors to its ranks and both of them are accepting referrals.
A release from the CKHA said Dr. Fernanda Berto is joining the hospital as a urologist and Dr. Stephanie Jarrin is joining as a pediatrician.
Dr. Berto is originally from Brazil and is fluent in both English and Portuguese.
She earned her medical degree from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Sao Paulo in 2011 and completed a two-year residency in general surgery and a three-year residency in urology there as well. Dr. Berto is also currently completing an Endourology Fellowship, a Master of Science degree, and an Andrology and Reconstruction Fellowship at the Schulich School of Medicine (Western University) in London.
Dr. Berto will join the urology team at the CKHA, which was kickstarted in 2020 when urologist Dr. Hamidreza Abdi, whose primary practice is now in Brampton, joined the hospitals in Chatham-Kent.
"Having friends in common with Dr. Abdi, I heard only good things about both CKHA and the patients in the Chatham-Kent area," said Dr. Berto. "I'm grateful for the kind welcome by CKHA, and I’m honoured to join the team. I will strive to continue providing high-quality urological care."
Dr. Berto is sharing office space with fellow urologist Dr. Christopher Langley who joined the CKHA last year.
Primary care providers who are seeking urologic care for their patients are encouraged to fax referrals to Dr. Berto at (226) 996-1080.
Dr. Jarrin earned her Bachelor of Science in Medical Radiation Science from McMaster University and then spent six years working as a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer in Toronto before pursuing her Doctorate in Medicine at the American University of Antigua, which she completed in 2018.
She most recently served as a Pediatric Critical Care Medicine Fellow at the University of Maryland in Baltimore from 2021 to 2023, but moved to Ontario this year to be closer to her family.
Dr. Jarrin said Chatham-Kent was a good location for her family because her husband works in London.
"I am committed to bringing a compassionate and patient-centered approach to healthcare. I look forward to combining my expertise with a deep commitment to improving the well-being of every child," said Dr. Jarrin. "I am excited to be part of a team that values collaboration and innovation, striving to provide the highest level of care to the community."
Dr. Jarrin is also accepting patient referrals and any primary care providers are encouraged to fax referrals to (519) 358-1586.
