Chatham teen wins boxing championship in Windsor

A 13-year-old Chatham teen can now say he’s a provincial boxing champion.

Landen Willimot of the KAYO Boxing Club took part in the Golden Gloves Championship this weekend in Windsor and ended up walking away with the gold medal in the 132 lbs category.

“It makes me feel good that I can represent my club,” he told CK News Today.

Willimot has been boxing for 12 years. His parents, both of which are past boxing tournament champions, got him into the sport when he was just one.

“My parents are over the moon,” said an excited Willimot.

In his short career, he now boasts a record of 17-3.

Willimot also explained this championship helped him get his confidence back after a couple of tough matches.

“I got caught with a good shot, but I recovered,” he added.

At this time, Willimot doesn’t know if he’ll be able to compete nationally since he’s still only 13 years old.
