Fallen police officers remembered on National Memorial Day

Police officers across the country who’ve lost their lives in the line of duty are once again being honoured.

Police and Peace Officers' National Memorial Day is recognized on the last Sunday in September. This has been an annual tradition in Canada since 1998.

Hundreds of officers took part in a memorial service at Parliament Hill in Ottawa with the names of all those who’ve died being read out loud.

Multiple officers with the Windsor Police were among those in attendance. This included Chief Jason Bellaire and Deputy Chief Karel DeGraaf.

Windsor Sgt. Adam Young and Cst. Ryan Henderson were also there after taking part in the Ride to Remember 700 km bike trek from Aylmer to Ottawa. They did it in honour of Cst. John Atkinson who was murdered in the line of duty 18 years ago.

Flags at police stations across the country are also flying at half-mast including those in Sarnia.
