Habitat for Humanity CK says goodbye to first community ReStore

It's an end of an era for Habitat for Humanity Chatham-Kent's current ReStore.

The non-profit's space for selling affordable housing products and accepting donations is officially closing its doors Tuesday at its current location on Riverview Dr. It will be moving into the new location, located on Junction Way, sometime in October.

"It is sad to see this store go because its so unique and quirky with all its nooks and crannies but we're really excited to get into a new space," said Steve Postma, the ReStore Manager.

He explained the location has been open for around 10 years and hasn't always been the cleanest and best smelling place to work in.

Habitat for Humanity's new ReStore will be smaller, however, it's expected to be more efficient since they previously couldn't stack any products as the current location is on an angle due to it being a loading dock.

"We'll be able to have more product in a smaller space," added Postma.

People interested in visiting the current ReStore location one last time have until 5 p.m. on Tuesday. Those wanting to potentially buy some products can also do so, though the space is as empty as its every been.

"The acoustics are really good out there for singing now," Postma joked.

Those looking to make a donation will have to wait until the new location opens up in October.
