Chatham man accused of setting fire to local home

A 45-year-old man is facing a pair of arson charges after he allegedly started a fire at a home on Taylor Avenue in Chatham.

Chatham-Kent police said they were called to the residence at around 11:30 a.m. Monday, adding that when officers arrived, they learned that the occupants of the home had discovered a fire at the front of the residence and saw a man who they know a few feet away, holding a fuel can.

Police said they saw burn marks on the residence and were able to track the man down after he fled the scene.

A 45-year-old Chatham man is charged with two counts of arson -- one for endangering life and one for damaging property.

He was taken to police headquarters and was set to be held there pending a bail hearing.

Woman gives a fake name to police during Wallaceburg stop

A Wallaceburg woman who was wanted by police in Chatham-Kent and Windsor is in more trouble with the law after she allegedly gave police a fake name during a traffic stop.

CK police said they found her after they pulled over a vehicle on Wallace Street in Wallaceburg shortly after 10:30 a.m. Monday and that's when she allegedly lied to police.

When police learned her true identity, they also confirmed that she was wanted on outstanding warrants.

The woman was arrested by CK police first, then released to Windsor Police to fulfill their arrest warrant.

She is charged locally with theft, possession of stolen property, and obstructing police.

Wanted Wallaceburg man turned over to OPP

A 27-year-old Wallaceburg man who was wanted by Lambton OPP also turned up on Wallace Street on Monday.

CK police said they found the man there just after 4 p.m. Monday and confirmed he was wanted by provincial police.

As a result, he was arrested and turned over to OPP.

OPP cycling team heads out from CK en route to Ottawa

The Ontario Provincial Police cycling team left the Chatham-Kent Detachment Tuesday morning as part of the ongoing Canadian Police Memorial Ride To Remember.

Constable Brett Phair from the OPP said the ride is to honour those who have given their lives in service to the community.
