Provincial police in Chatham-Kent are giving credit to a tipster for helping officers to stop a driver who was going way too fast on Highway 401 over the weekend.
Elgin OPP with the Chatham Detachment said they got a traffic complaint shortly after 12 a.m. on Saturday and found a vehicle that was travelling more than 65 kilometres per hour over the posted limit in the westbound lanes of Highway 401 near Communication Road.
OPP said the investigating officer pulled the vehicle over on Communication Road after it pulled off the highway and the driver was taken into custody without incident.
A 53-year-old man from Oshweken was charged with driving while impaired and stunt driving.
His driver's license has been suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for 14 days as a result of the charges.
Police are thanking the individual who called in the incident and they are putting out a call for anyone who sees a suspected impaired driver to dial 911 or contact the Ontario Provincial Police at 1-888-310-1122.
