Walpole Island man faces weapons, drug charges

A Walpole Island man is facing a long list of charges after police executed a search warrant at a residence on the First Nation.

Lambton OPP said it happened August 29 as part of an ongoing weapons investigation.

The search involved members of the OPP's Lambton County Crime Unit, the OPP Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU), Walpole Island First Nation Police, along with the OPP West Region Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU), and Emergency Response Team (ERT).

During the search, officers allegedly discovered and seized firearms, ammunition, prohibited weapons, a quantity of suspected fentanyl, and other offence-related items.

Richard Hinojosa, 60, is facing the following charges:

- Assault with a weapon (two counts)

- Uttering threats - cause death or bodily harm

- Careless use of firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition (two counts)

- Careless storage of firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition (two counts)

- Firearm - use while committing offence

- Failure to comply with release order - other than to attend court (five counts)

- Break, enter dwelling house - commit indictable offence

- Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm (two counts)

- Possession of loaded prohibited or restricted firearm

- Possession for the purpose of trafficking fentanyl (two counts)

The suspect was held for a bail hearing before the Ontario Court of Justice in the City of Sarnia and has since been remanded into custody.
