8th annual Athletes Fuel Cup underway

If you want to take a break from the 2024 Paris Olympics and get yourself geared up for the upcoming hockey season, there's a tournament in Chatham that could help.

The 8th annual Athletes Fuel Cup is underway at Thames Campus Arena in Chatham.

The annual tournament goes until August 20, 2024 and features team captains TJ Brodie of the Chicago Blackhawks, Seth Griffith of the Bakersfield Condors (AHL), and Deni Goure, an Owen Sound Attack alumni (OHL). They have been team captains at the tournament for three years in a row.

The tournament kicked off on Tuesday and the next games are Thursday evening with Team Griffith taking on Team Brodie at 6:30 p.m. and Team Goure facing Team Griffith at 7:45 p.m.

Brodie has played 13 seasons in the NHL.

Griffith has played 80 career NHL games, is a two-time AHL All-Star, is Bakersfield's All-Time Leading Scorer, and has the team's most goals and points in a single-season.

Goure is Top 10 All-Time in franchise history in goals, assists, and points, is the 2024 OHL leading scorer amongst overage players, and holds the franchise single-season record for points by an overage player.

The championship game is scheduled for August 20 at 6:30 p.m.
