The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit has released new test results on a blue-green algae bloom in Lake St. Clair.
In a media release issued Tuesday afternoon, the health unit said that results from the algae bloom off Stoney Point are deemed safe.
However, the health unit pointed out that it doesn't mean everything is normal.
"A negative result or a result with acceptable levels does not mean that the bloom cannot be harmful," read the update from the health unit. "Blue-green algae can turn toxin production on and off in response to different environmental factors."
The health unit has asked people to continue avoiding contact with water that is discoloured or with a scummy appearance. Should contact occur, wash the affected area thoroughly with clean water.
The health unit has also recommended that those living near a bloom should avoid using the water for infant formula or food preparation, and consider using bottled water for consumption or cooking.
Children and pets should also not play in water affected by blue-green algae, as high toxins could lead to serious, or even fatal, health issues.
Complete information about blue-green algae blooms can be found on the health unit's official website.
