Wanted man runs from police after gas and dash

A 37-year-old Chatham-Kent man is facing charges after an investigation into an alleged gas theft in Tilbury ended with a foot chase in Chatham.

Chatham-Kent police said they were called to investigate the theft on Mill Street in Tilbury shortly before 2:30 p.m. Wednesday and were able to secure a description of the suspect and the vehicle.

Officers spotted the vehicle on King Street East in Chatham at around 10 p.m. Wednesday and pulled the driver over on Hyslop Street.

Police said at that time, the driver took off running before he was arrested and taken into custody.

Investigators said they learned the man was banned from driving and was violating various sections of the Highway Traffic Act. He was also wanted for failing to attend court.

The accused was taken to police headquarters and was set to be held in custody pending a bail hearing.

He is currently charged with more than a dozen charges including five counts of failing to comply with a probation order, three counts of driving while banned, and two counts of failing to attend court in addition to one count each of mischief, theft, possession of stolen property, driving under suspension, driving without insurance, driving without a valid permit, and failing to comply with his release conditions.

Two arrests for failing to attend court

Chatham-Kent police have caught up with two more people accused of skipping their court dates.

A 44-year-old Tilbury woman who was wanted for failing to attend court in a June 2022 mischief investigation turned herself in at the CK police office in Tilbury just before 8:30 a.m. Wednesday.

She was taken to police headquarters and later released by the court with a future court date.

In the second case, police arrested a 34-year-old Chatham-Kent man who was wanted on an outstanding warrant for failing to attend court in relation to "numerous investigations."

Police said they caught up with him on William Street South in Chatham shortly after 8:30 a.m. Wednesday.

He was taken to police headquarters pending a bail hearing, then transferred to the Southwest Regional Detention Centre pending a future court date.

Man caught breaching probation order

A call about a disturbance on Wedgewood Avenue in Chatham led to a local man's arrest Wednesday morning.

Police said when they arrived at the residence, they found a man inside who was bound by a probation order that banned him from communicating with the person who lived there.

A 47-year-old Chatham-Kent man was arrested and taken to police headquarters before he was released with a future court date.

He was charged with failing to comply with a probation order.
