Fifth McDonald's confirmed for Chatham

Another set of golden arches is set to pop up in Chatham -- this time, on the east end of town.

Construction work is underway at the site of a fifth McDonald's franchise in the city, which is set to go up at the northeast corner of Sass Road and Park Avenue East.

Chatham-Kent Mayor Darrin Canniff confirmed the development on CK Mornings with Chris, Allanah & Matt on 94.3 CKSY Wednesday morning.

"It is official... I can confirm there is a full-size McDonald's going in there," said Canniff. "There are a lot of things going on there."

Canniff said some other developments in the same area include a convenience store and a gas bar.

"If you look at it, it's one of the few fast food restaurants on the south side of the river, so I think you will see more of that -- more restaurants coming into the south side of Chatham as well... that'll probably start leading the way for that," said Canniff.

News of a McDonald's setting up in Chatham's east end south of the Thames River follows other recent announcements in the same area, including the opening of indoor playground The Magic Land at 600 Junction Avenue and Habitat for Humanity breaking ground on a new ReStore, also on Junction Avenue.

It's not clear yet what the timeline is for when the new McDonald's in Chatham could be ready to open.
