Chatham-Kent Health Alliance (CKHA) is welcoming new doctors to its pediatric, emergency, and hospitalist teams.
The four physicians have trained and worked across the globe and are eager to treat the residents of Chatham-Kent.

"Their diverse backgrounds and extensive experience will further strengthen our ability to deliver high-quality healthcare services to the residents of Chatham-Kent. We look forward to the positive impact they will make on our patients and community.”
Dr. Khaldoun Sallam joins CKHA as a Pediatrician with specialized training in neonatal-perinatal medicine.
"Practicing pediatrics brings me immense joy and fulfillment making a positive impact on the lives of children and their families," Dr. Sallam said. "CKHA has a renowned reputation for providing comprehensive and compassionate care to children in the community, as well as a collaborative teamwork and supportive work environment."
Dr. Sallam got his Doctor of Medicine degree and Board certification in Pediatrics in Syria, his training also includes Fellowships in Neonatal Perinatal Medicine from the University of Calgary and McMaster University.
He brings almost a decade of experience working as a Pediatrician across the Middle East.
In 2022, Dr. Andrew Helt joined CKHA part-time in Critical Care as the Intensivist on duty. He has now committed to joining the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and Emergency Departments on a full-time, permanent basis.
Dr. Helt is a Canadian-trained Fellow of both emergency medicine and critical care medicine with official Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada (FRCPC) designation.
He completed a Doctor of Medicine at Western University, followed by an Emergency Medicine Residency and a Critical Care Medicine Fellowship at Queens’s University.
Dr. Mabruk Alafshuk joins CKHA with over two decades of experience in internal medicine.
Educated in Libya and further trained in Cardiology in the United Kingdom, Dr. Alafshuk said he is excited to continue his medical journey in Chatham-Kent.
"I chose Chatham as a second home because of its nature, good weather, and the welcoming people" said Dr. Alafshuk. "I enjoy seeing my patients, and I am excited to join CKHA as an Internal Medicine specialist. Nothing makes me happier than seeing my patients recovering."
Dr. Michael Okoye completed his medical training in Nigeria and Ireland and is also a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada.
The hospital believes "his dedication to patient well-being and commitment to medical learning make him an invaluable asset to CKHA's Internal Medicine and Hospitalist teams."
According to CKHA, Dr. Okoye also plans to open a clinic in the community focusing on respirology and general internal medicine.
