Tornado confirmed near Pain Court

A damage investigation is underway after a landspout-type tornado touched down near Pain Court during Thursday's storms.

Environment Canada issued a severe thunderstorm warning for the area late Thursday afternoon, which warned of wind gusts up to 90 km/h and torrential rains.

On Friday morning, the Northern Tornadoes Project (NTP) verified that a tornado did develop and touch down.

Landspout tornadoes are commonly weaker than other types of tornadoes, though they are capable of causing significant damage.

No damages have been reported yet following Thursday's storm.

NTP will be sending a team to the area of the tornado sighting to collect more information and anyone with damage reports can send them to the NTP by clicking here.
