Surety drops bail for man accused of assault

A 60-year-old Chatham man who is facing assault charges is back in custody after his bail was cancelled.

Chatham-Kent police said they picked him up on Baxter Street in Chatham shortly after 2:30 p.m. Monday, adding that he was wanted on a warrant after the person who posted bail for him cancelled their support.

The man was taken to the courthouse for a bail hearing and as a result of that hearing, he was taken into custody pending a future court date.

He is currently charged with two counts of assault along with one count of assault with a weapon and one count of uttering threats.

Man injures himself during smash-and-grab

A 29-year-old Chatham-Kent man is facing charges after he allegedly broke his way into a business in Chatham he had been banned from attending.

CK police said they were called to the business on Wellington Street shortly before 1:30 a.m. Tuesday for a report of a man breaking in.

When officers arrived, they found the suspect inside the business with merchandise in his hands.

Police said he had "visible injuries" that were consistent with the damage that was seen to the glass in the front door of the business, which had been smashed.

Officers also learned that the man was out on probation with an order to stay away from that specific location.

The accused was arrested and taken to police headquarters, where he was set to be held pending a bail hearing.

He was charged with break-and-enter and failing to comply with his probation.

Chatham man arrested for uttering threats

A 37-year-old Chatham man is in trouble with the law after he allegedly threatened someone's family during a verbal fight in Blenheim.

Chatham-Kent police say they arrested him after they were called to a disturbance on Middle Line in Blenheim at around 7 p.m. Monday where a man had threatened another man's family during a "verbal altercation."

Officers said the accused was taken to police headquarters and later released with a future court date.

Man wanted on DNA warrant shows up at the courthouse

A 24-year-old Chatham man who was wanted on a DNA warrant in connection with a sexual interference conviction has been arrested, processed, and released.

CK police said he showed up at the Ontario Court of Justice just before 3 p.m. Monday.

Wanted man arrested for probation violation

The law has come calling for a 41-year-old Chatham man who was wanted for breaching his probation.

CK police said they found him on Wellington Street in Chatham shortly before 9 p.m. Monday and confirmed he was wanted in a probation violation investigation from March 2024.

He was arrested and later released with a future court date.
