Artists to paint CK all sorts of colours

They won't just be painting the town red, 11 artists from across the globe will be in CK this summer to beautify Chatham's downtown core.

A brand new event called CK Can Jam will take place from July 15 to July 20 and will see artists creating nine murals during that time.

Event organizer Sarah Tucker-Steele participated in a similar event in Windsor and said she was was inspired to start something in Chatham-Kent.

"It was amazing to work with so many great artists that have had their work featured in countries like Spain, China, Venezuela, Cuba and across the globe. The event brought us together as artists, the collaborative effort and opportunity to learn and share different techniques was priceless," Steele explained.

Can Jam Volunteer Coordinator Shannon Young said she fell in love with the idea, when Steele explained it to her.

"Beautification of the area is awesome, but meeting with, and working with all of these world renowned artists is a once in a lifetime opportunity," she said.

Everyone is welcome to watch the artists create the murals during the week-long event. There is also time to volunteer at or sponsor the CK Can Jam.

"I invite everyone to be a part of this amazing event," Young said.

At the end of the week there will be a free afterparty at Son's Of Kent Brewery from 5 p.m. - 10 p.m. The artists will be holding a live, interactive art event at the party for the public to enjoy.

Information about volunteering, the participating artists, and a map of where the art will be created can be found here.
