JDRF Walk returns to Kingston Park

A walk is to raise money for Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) research is set for Sunday, June 9 in Chatham.

The JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes gets underway at noon at Kingston Park, with registration opening at 11 a.m.

"It's a 1 or 2 km accessible route," said walk chairperson Mandy Smith-Grant. "We invite all families who have a member living with Type 1 Diabetes, but it's all open to the community in general to come out and support our cause."

Upwards of 100 people are expected to attend the walk, and a number of fun, family-friendly events are also planned.

"Arts and crafts, lawn games, Zumba, we have some local celebrities attending, the Optimist Club will be providing lunch," said Smith-Grant. "We are doing this rain or shine, we have a lovely pavilion reserved."

A closing ceremony will take place at 1 p.m.

The goal is to raise $11,000, and at last check they were over 70% of that goal. All of the money raised goes to help fund research for a cure for T1D.
