Chatham man charged with impaired driving after hit and run

A 63-year-old Chatham man is facing a pair of charges after he allegedly crashed into two other vehicles and then drove off -- all while driving drunk.

Chatham-Kent police said they were called to the scene of the collisions on Park Avenue West in Chatham at 11:45 p.m. Thursday.

Officers were able to obtain a description of the vehicle and a license plate number and that led them to the suspect's address.

Police said an officer showed up there just as the driver was parking the vehicle.

It was believed the driver was under the influence of alcohol, so he was arrested and taken to police headquarters for tests.

The man was charged with impaired driving and failing to remain at the scene of a collision before he was released with conditions and a future court date.
