Chatham man facing impaired driving charge after police see vehicle doing burnouts

A 22-year-old Chatham man is facing charges after he was allegedly caught causing a smoky scene on a busy local road.

Chatham-Kent police said they pulled the man over after seeing a vehicle doing burnouts on Grand Avenue East shortly before 2 p.m. Wednesday and then speeding off.

Police said the officer who stopped the man believed he was under the influence of alcohol, so he was taken to police headquarters for further tests. His driver's license had also previously been suspended.

Police said the man is now charged with impaired driving, having a blood alcohol concentration over the legal limit, stunt driving, and driving with a suspended license.

He was later released with conditions and a future court date, but his vehicle was towed from the scene and was set to be impounded for seven days.

Chatham man accused of threatening his neighbour

A 45-year-old Chatham man is facing a pair of charges after he allegedly threatened his neighbour while holding a knife.

CK police said they were responding to an unrelated call on Orchard Heights in Chatham at around 1:45 p.m. Wednesday when a woman approached an officer to report that her neighbour had threatened her while they were arguing.

The man was reportedly intoxicated and confrontational when police found him.

He was arrested and charged with uttering threats and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose before he was released with conditions and a future court date.

Man and woman spotted pushing stolen motorcycle

A 39-year-old Chatham Township woman and a 43-year-old Chatham man are facing charges after they were allegedly seen pushing a stolen motorcycle on Lacroix Street in Chatham.

Officers said they got a tip about that shortly before 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Police said the motorcycle matched the description of one that had been reported stolen a day earlier from Tweedsmuir Avenue in Chatham.

Police found the man and the woman on Siskind Avenue and confirmed the motorcycle was stolen.

The man and the woman who were pushing it were both arrested and charged with possession of stolen property.

They were both later released with conditions and a future court date.

Three people wanted for failing to attend court arrested

Chatham-Kent police have arrested three people who were all wanted on outstanding warrants.

Police said they picked up a 40-year-old Chatham man on Cross Street in Chatham shortly before 8 a.m. Wednesday after confirming that he was wanted for failing to attend court in a breach of probation investigation from December 2023.

He was taken to police headquarters and was later released with a future court date.

A 30-year-old Ridgetown woman who was wanted on several warrants was also arrested Wednesday morning.

Police said they found her on Victoria Road in Ridgetown at 8:20 a.m. Wednesday and took her into custody pending a bail hearing.

She's charged with theft, possession of stolen property, failing to comply with her release conditions, and failing to attend court.

The third arrest on warrants was a 23-year-old Blenheim woman who was wanted on several warrants for skipping scheduled court appearances.

CK police said they found her on Murray Street in Chatham at around 9:45 a.m. Wednesday and took her into custody pending a bail hearing.

She is charged with obstructing a peace officer and failing to comply with an appearance notice.
