Summer in Chatham-Kent officially kicks off this weekend in Thamesville.
The Thamesville Threshing Festival opens Friday, June 21 with the midway and parade, but some changes are being made to accommodate the people who want to watch the Stanley Cup Finals.
"We're going to be putting up TVs in the beer garden this year just because game six is here and everybody's really interested in watching that game," said Festival Chair Ed Pumfrey. "So we're going to make sure that happens."
A lot of the traditional events are back, including the parade at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, the Frog Jump and Baby Show on Saturday morning, and the midway on both Friday and Saturday.
The fan favourite Farmers Olympics and the Junior Farmers Olympics are also back.
"That always draws a massive crowd and it just every year grows bigger and bigger," said Pumfrey. "The kids just absolutely love it, and so do the adults. I think last year we had close to 100 participants, it's quite something to watch."
It's a large obstacle course that involves hay bales, stacks of wood, and pulling a tractor. There are also a number of new events.
"We have pro wrestling coming this year, and the other interesting, new thing is we've got Dragon Breath Entertainment just before our awesome fireworks," said Pumfrey. "They're entertainers blowing fire, swallowing swords, and all kinds of wild stuff."
The Threshing Festival wraps up on Saturday, June 22 with Fireworks at 10:15 p.m. For more information, visit https://www.facebook.com/thamesvillethreshingfestival.
