Magic mushroom store in downtown Chatham gets busted

Chatham-Kent police have seized a large amount of illegal drugs at a downtown Chatham business.

Police said officers conducted a search warrant at the Fun Guyz shop at 101 King Street West in Chatham on Wednesday as part of an ongoing investigation, adding the business was only operating for four days.

According to police, more than 370 packages of psilocybin (magic mushrooms) worth over $20,000 were seized.

Psilocybin is a controlled substance under the Controlled Drugs and Substance Act and is illegal in Canada.

"The seized drugs will undergo analysis as the investigation progresses," police said. "The Chatham-Kent Police and our community remain committed to actively combatting unlawful businesses. It is important to note that the possession, sale, and production of magic mushrooms, psilocybin, and psilocin are illegal. We will continue to work diligently to maintain the safety and well-being of our community."

Police Sergeant Jason Herder told CK News Today no fines or charges were laid during the raid.

CK News Today went to the store on Thursday afternoon and it was still open for business. Sergeant Herder said police do not shut businesses down, but continue to investigate the establishment.

The Fun Guyz brand operates several stores across Ontario, including Windsor and London, selling psilocybin, also known as magic mushrooms.

Several of the Fun Guyz dispensaries have been raided by police and criminal charges have been laid.
