Missing senior reunited with family thanks to Good Samaritan in CK

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in Chatham-Kent are thanking a person for helping reunite a missing 82-year-old person with their family.

The OPP said the individual's "quick thinking" is responsible for the family reunion.

"The police want to thank the Good Samaritan for their assistance. As a direct result of their assistance and subsequent phone call, the missing individual was located, and the family notified of their loved one's whereabouts," said Constable Brett Phair.

The OPP said officers were dispatched to the westbound Highway 401 near Communication Road in Chatham-Kent late Saturday afternoon for a report of a broken-down vehicle by the road and discovered a Good Samaritan had stopped to assist the driver at the side of the road.

According to the OPP, the helper determined the elderly driver needed additional assistance and contacted the Chatham OPP Detachment.

Investigating officers determined that a family member of the 82-year-old from Waubaushene had contacted the Southern Georgian Bay OPP Detachment about 90 minutes earlier to report the individual was missing, said Constable Phair.

Police said the missing 82-year-old was assessed and transported to a local hospital by paramedics as a precaution.
