Chatham man facing two dozen charges after fleeing from traffic stop
A failed traffic stop has resulted in new charges for a Chatham man out on bail.
On Saturday, a Chatham-Kent police officer out on patrol was alerted by an onboard licence plate reader of a vehicle with an unauthorized licence plate.
The driver of the vehicle was known to police as he was out on bail for 21 charges including assault, assault with a weapon, mischief, and theft.
According to police, the man drove off when the officer tried to pull him over. As police knew where the man was likely to go a car chase was not initiated.
Officers did locate the suspect hiding behind a local business and arrested him.
The 31-year-old man is facing new charges after this latest incident including flight from police, dangerous driving, and uttering threats to kill.
The man was held in police custody pending bail.
