Careless driving charge laid after three-vehicle crash in Chatham

Three people were taken to the hospital and one driver was charged after a three-vehicle crash on Communication Road in Chatham.

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) with the Chatham Detachment were called to the scene at the intersection of Communication Rd. and Creek Road at around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Officers said they learned that a vehicle that was heading north on Communication Rd. was trying to turn left onto Creek Road when it hit another vehicle that was heading south on Communication Rd.

Officers said the crash resulted in a second collision involving a third vehicle that was stopped at the same intersection on Creek Road west of Communication Road.

Police closed a section of Communication Rd. temporarily for safety reasons and their investigation, but that has since re-opened.

Officers said two of the drivers and one of the passengers involved in the collision were taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the third vehicle involved in the collision -- the vehicle stopped on Creek Road -- was assessed at the scene and declined further treatment.

The driver of the northbound vehicle, a 55-year-old Chatham resident, was charged with careless driving.

Police are still asking any witnesses or anyone with dash cam footage of the collision to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
