If you have some old pesticides, paint, or fuel that has been taking up space in your garage or storage room, you can safely dispose of it this week.
The first of eight Household Hazardous Waste Days in Chatham-Kent this year is coming up on Tuesday, April 9.
It will be held from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Veolia Environmental Services located at 141 Prosperity Way near Chatham in the Bloomfield Business Park.
The notice provided by the Municipality of Chatham-Kent on its website notes that "these chemicals in the garbage or pouring them down the drain can be dangerous to our families and our environment," so they are encouraging everyone to dispose of the waste properly.
All of the material being dropped off needs to be in clearly labelled, sealed containers no larger than 20 litres, needles must be delivered in rigid puncture-proof containers, the maximum quantity accepted is a total of 50 litres of waste material, and you should not mix different types of material.
There is no charge for the service and you can find a list of the approved and unacceptable materials by clicking here.
Anyone who wants to drop off material should stay in their vehicle and have staff remove the items for you. You are also reminded that the containers you bring your waste in will not be emptied and/or returned.
