Around $7.4 million has been earmarked toward capital projects for Catholic schools in Sarnia-Lambton and Chatham-Kent.
The St. Clair Catholic District School Board said annual funding was recently doled out by the Ministry of Education.
The School Condition Improvement (SCI) is a capital renewal program, which allows school boards to revitalize and renew aged building components that have exceeded, or will exceed, their life cycle.
The ministry also provides School Renewal Allocation (SRA), which allows school boards to revitalize and renew aged building systems.
This includes roof replacements, HVAC systems, building automation systems, air-conditioning systems and maintenance requirements, such as painting, roof patching and pavement/parking lot repairs.
In Lambton, site upgrades are being done at St. Patrick's Highschool, including a new classroom and gymnasium.
There's a partial roof replacement planned at Holy Trinity, and phase two of interior renovations is underway at Sacred Heart in Port Lambton.
In addition, new play spaces are being constructed at a number of schools, including Holy Trinity, St. Elizabeth, and St. Michael.
The money for that comes from the school board's $1.24 million budget for projects that fall below the provincial funding threshold.
In Chatham-Kent, cafeteria work is planned at Ursuline College, they'll be updating the entrance at St. Joseph school in Tilbury, and plumbing upgrades are in the works at St. Anne in Blenheim. St. Joseph school in Tilbury will also be getting a new outdoor learning space.
