Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre's bid to bring down Prime Minister Justin Trudeau over the carbon tax has failed.
The New Democratic Party and Bloc Quebecois voted to save Justin Trudeau from a non-confidence vote.
"This tax hike is coming at the worst possible time," read a statement from the Conservative Party following Thursday's vote. "After eight years of Trudeau’s inflationary spending and taxes, Canadians are struggling. The NDP and the Bloc had a chance to listen to their constituents and bring some desperately needed relief this week on two occasions."
The final vote was 204 to 116. It comes just one day before the second anniversary of the Liberals' deal with the NDP to keep Trudeau's minority government in power for three years.
Canada’s national carbon tax is expected to increase from $65 to $80 per tonne of carbon emissions on Monday, April 1. It is then anticipated to increase on an annual basis by $15 until it reaches $170 per tonne by 2030.
Approximately 80 per cent of Canadians receive more from the rebates than they pay in carbon pricing, according to the government's data.
