CK police nab wanted man and woman during traffic stop

Two Chatham-Kent residents who were wanted by police will spend at least the next few days behind bars after they were arrested during a traffic stop in Chatham.

Chatham-Kent police said they arrested the 38-year-old Harwich Township man and the 45-year-old Chatham woman after an officer pulled a vehicle over on Thames Street in Chatham at around 9:15 a.m. Thursday.

Officers said their investigation showed that both of the accused were wanted by police and that the man was bound by a release order that required him to stay away from the woman he was with.

Police said they were both arrested and taken to police headquarters where they were held for a bail hearing and then remanded into custody until a court appearance on March 12.

The 38-year-old Harwich Township man is currently charged with more than a dozen offenses including:

- six counts of possession of a firearm or ammo contrary to a prohibition order

- three counts of failing to comply with a release order

- one count of failing to comply with an undertaking

- one count of carrying a concealed weapon

- one count of careless storage of a firearm

- one count of possession of a prohibited device/ammo

- one count of being an occupant of a vehicle knowing there is a prohibited device inside

- one count of possession of drug possession for the purpose of trafficking

The 45-year-old Chatham woman is currently charged with the following offenses:

- one count of impaired driving

- one count of careless storage of a firearm

- one count of possession of a prohibited device/ammo

- one count of being an occupant of a vehicle knowing there is a prohibited device inside

- one count of possession of drug possession for the purpose of trafficking

- one count of failing to appear in court

- one count of failing to comply with a release order

Wanted man found sleeping under a tree

A 33-year-old man who was wanted for skipping court is back in Chatham-Kent police custody after he was seen taking a nap under a tree in Wallaceburg.

CK police said they got a call about the man shortly after 1:30 p.m. Thursday and found him sleeping under a tree on Duke Street.

Police said they learned that the man was wanted for failing to appear in court related to several investigations, so he was arrested and taken to police headquarters.

He had a bail hearing and was later remanded into custody until his next court appearance on March 12.

The Wallaceburg man is facing a long list of charges including:

- three counts of fraud

- two counts of drug possession

- two counts of unauthorized possession of a firearm

- two counts of failing to attend court

- two counts of possession of stolen property

- one count of possession of a prohibited/restricted firearm

- one count of careless storage of a firearm/weapon/ammo

- one count of unauthorized use of a credit card

Woman accused of punching window, pushing someone during argument

An 18-year-old Wallaceburg woman is facing charges after an argument in Wallaceburg Thursday evening took a violent turn.

CK police said the woman allegedly punched a window and pushed someone during an argument at a residence on Running Creek Drive.

Officers were called to the scene shortly after 7:30 p.m. and arrested the woman, who was also found to be intoxicated.

Police said the woman who was arrested was charged with assault and mischief and was taken to police headquarters where she was held until she sobered up.

She was later released with conditions and a future court date.
