Significant rainfall expected across southwestern Ontario

Residents across southwestern Ontario will want to keep their umbrellas and rainboots within arm's reach this weekend.

A special weather statement, calling for significant rain late Friday through Saturday, has been issued for the region.

The statement is in place for London-Middlesex, Sarnia-Lambton, Chatham-Kent, Windsor-Essex, Elgin County, Oxford County, and Wingham.

Forecasters say a low-pressure system is expected to bring widespread rain across the region this weekend.

Periods of rain will begin late Friday and progress eastward overnight.

"At this point, there is still uncertainty regarding rainfall amounts," the statement read. "Rainfall warnings may be issued for some regions as the event approaches."

The rain is expected to change to flurries Saturday night as colder air moves into the region.
