An automaker's Canadian division has issued a safety recall for thousands of pickup trucks and SUVs.
Toyota Canada has recalled just over 28,000 Toyota Tundra pickup trucks, Sequoia full-size SUVs, and Lexus LX 600 luxury SUVs, due to concerns with the transmission.
"Certain parts of the transmission may not immediately disengage when the vehicle is shifted to the neutral position," read a release from Toyota Canada. "This can allow some engine power to continue to be transferred to the wheels and can allow the vehicle to inadvertently creep forward at a low speed when it is on a flat surface and no brakes are applied, leading to an increased risk of a crash."
The recall involves the listed vehicles in the 2023 and 2024 model years.
Specific owners will be notified by April. They may bring the vehicle to a Toyota service department for a transmission software update at no cost.
There was no word from Toyota about crashes or injuries caused by this issue.
