Ag Day donations will go to local food banks

Canada's Agriculture Day will be held on February 13 this year, and a local agriculture federation will use the day to help the less fortunate.

The Kent Federation of Agriculture (KFA) will be collecting food donations for the Chatham-Kent Salvation Army and OutReach for Hunger. This year it plans to work with Southwest Meat Packers in Thamesville.

"We would love to raise enough funds to donate 1,000 lbs of ground beef to the food banks," said KFA board member Paige Handsor.

Handsor noted that some council members will be dropping in during the two hour donation period.

Anyone who would like to make a donation can do so on Tuesday between 9-11 a.m. at the Salvation Army Church in Chatham.

Ag Day is meant to recognize the work of those who produce the food that keeps Canadians and people around the world fed.
