The Source in Chatham is closing its doors

The Source store in Chatham is closing.

A source confirms to CKNewsToday.ca The Source store on St. Clair Street in Chatham is part of the massive store closures announced by Bell Canada Enterprises on Thursday.

Bell Spokesperson Jacqueline Michelis said 165 The Source stores will become Best Buy Express with the remaining stores closing this year.

The Source in Chatham employs five people.

CKNewsToday.ca has learned the longest serving employee at the Chatham store has 35 years on the job, while the least tenured worker has worked at the Chatham store for five years.

Bell Canada Enterprises announced on Thursday it's planning to slash 4,800 jobs and sell 45 radio stations across the country.

More than 100 The Source store closures were also announced by Bell.

The news came as the company announced quarterly earnings fell to $382 million from $528 million a year earlier.

The company cited slumping advertising revenues and continuing losses in its news division, as well as regulatory decisions forcing it to sell cheaper bulk internet access to smaller competitors.

The telecom giant announced last June that it would be cutting 1,300 jobs.
